Frankfort, KY (December 2,
2004) - Willie Jackson of Murray, Kentucky caught the new state
record yellow perch out of Kentucky Lake on November 17, 2004.
Jackson was jigging a slab spoon about a mile south of Kenlake Resort
when the state record yellow perch hit. The record fish weighed
1-pound, 4-ounces with a length of 13 and ˝ inches and a girth of 9
and ˝ inches.
The new record yellow perch tops the previous record of 1.045 pounds
taken by Greg Barker on April 4, 2000 out of Kentucky Lake. Jackson
used 12-pound line on a baitcasting reel to land the record yellow
perch.
The fish was weighed at Aurora General Store in Aurora, Kentucky and
Ryan Oster, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)
western fisheries district fishery biologist, certified the record
catch.
