Kentucky's New State Record Yellow Perch

Frankfort, KY (December 2, 2004) - Willie Jackson of Murray, Kentucky caught the new state record yellow perch out of Kentucky Lake on November 17, 2004.

Jackson was jigging a slab spoon about a mile south of Kenlake Resort when the state record yellow perch hit. The record fish weighed 1-pound, 4-ounces with a length of 13 and ˝ inches and a girth of 9 and ˝ inches.

The new record yellow perch tops the previous record of 1.045 pounds taken by Greg Barker on April 4, 2000 out of Kentucky Lake. Jackson used 12-pound line on a baitcasting reel to land the record yellow perch.

The fish was weighed at Aurora General Store in Aurora, Kentucky and Ryan Oster, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) western fisheries district fishery biologist, certified the record catch.
