Anderson County Man Dies from Fall from Treestand

11/21/2005

Jeff Shultz, age 44 of Clinton, died after falling from a treestand. Shultz was deer hunting in a climbing treestand on the Sundquist Wildlife Management Area in Campbell County at approximately 9:00 a.m. when the accident occurred.

According to Wildlife Officer Ken Cutsinger, Shultz's stand was approximately twenty feet off the ground and he was not using a safety harness. According to witnesses, Shultz had a history of health problems, but it is not known if that is the reason for the fall or death.

Shultz was a graduate of TWRA's hunter education course. The body was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital in LaFollette. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

TWRA urges all hunters using elevated stands to wear a safety harness while climbing to or from or hunting in the stand.
