1st Turkey

Josh's 1st Turkey

Josh's 1st Turkey

After a 4am wake-up and being run around the woods till 3pm my son finally got his 1st turkey.

At daylight we had 5 birds gobbling their heads off until a pack of coyotes got under them and shut them up. At 8am I called in a boss tom to 50 yards but my son had no shot due to brush. I had a clear shot but passed in hopes he would get a shot. I had the bird working when a trespasser cut the bird off. I took out after him and chased him a good mile to where he made it to his truck and took off. Glad I had my binoculars, got his tag before he could get gone. Warrants on the way. Finally after a quick lunch we went and checked several fields. Then at 2pm we found the mother lode. I counted 22 hens 12 jakes and 5 toms in a 5 acre corn field. We slipped into the edge and waited until the birds worked back our way. When a jake was 50 yards away I did some soft calling and he came right in.

I could have killed a jake soon after my son shot but this was his time and I have my eye on a certain tom thats beard drags between his legs.
