Cherokee Reservoir has nearly 400 miles of shoreline With about 28,780 acres of water surface. Located in Hawkins, Grainger, Hamblen and Jefferson counties

Construction of Cherokee Dam began in August 1, 1940, and was completed on a crash schedule on December 5, 1941. The generating capacity of Cherokee's four hydroelectric units at is 135,200 kilowatts of electricity.

Fishing is very popular at Cherokee, and the reservoir’s fish population is very similar to that found in other east Tennessee reservoirs—black bass, sauger, walleye, crappie, various sunfish, and the usual rough-fish species.

There are lots of things to do at and around Cherokee Lake including; Fishing, water skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, flat water kayaking, swimming, sailing, camping, hiking, hunting, and more.


Directions to Cherokee Dam:


From Knoxville: From Knoxville, go east on I-40 then north on I-81. Take exit 8 on I-81 and go north on Highway 25E 9 miles.
