Watauga Lake is located
in north east Tennessee and is surrounded by the
beautiful mountains of the Cherokee National Forest. Watauga Lake is located
at an elevation of 1,959' at "Full Pool" making it
Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) highest elevation
reservoir in Tennessee. With 100 miles of winding
shore line, and a surface area of 6,430 acres, Watauga
Lake is a small lake compared some in
Tennessee. But what Watauga lacks in size, it more
than makes up for with it's solitude and beauty.
Watauga Lake was built by the TVA and completed in
1948 after a delay due to financial constraints of
World War II. The lake is managed by the TVA for
flood control and power generation. Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has
stocked
various fish species for environmental
enhancement and fishing opportunities. |
