Easy Whitewater Kayaking
Little River - Smoky Mountains National Park

Townsend Wye
Latitude: N 35° 40'xx"
Longitude: W 83° 44'xx"
Elevation: X'

Little River, Smoky Mountains Tennessee The section of the Little River, just outside the Smoky Mountain National Park is a popular tubing river that is also an easy "whitewater" paddle for sit-on top kayaks. Little River runs right through Townsend, Tennessee where tubes and kayaks are available for rent seasonally.

This section is pretty easy paddling with about 3 sets of rapids, the best being just below the Wye, and just below the first campground Treemont.

Even though the Little River is easy paddling, all appropriate safety measures should be taken. Many people have lost their lives in this river, usually because they weren't wearing a life jacket.

Directions: From Townsend Tennessee take hwy ?? towards the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. 1 mile after entering the park there is a parking lot on the left hand side of the road. This is the put in spot, the area known as the Townsend Wye.
