Mallard ducks are one of the most recognized
in the duck family. Often becoming semi-domesticated in park ponds. This
photo was taken at Cane Creek Park in Cookeville Tennessee. The female
(below) looks similar to numerous other female duck species including
Pintails, Gadwalls, and Blue-winged Teals. Their plain, brown coloring
allows them to be concealed while sitting on their nests which are usually
built in marsh grass or brush piles near the shore.
