Atlas Moth

Common Name: Atlas Moth
Scientific Name: Attacus atlas
Range: India, Sirlinka, China, Malaysia, Indonesia
Caterpillar Pale, yellowish green with long, fleshy spines that are powdered with white. Up to 4 inches (10 cm), long.
This is the worlds largest species of moth and is a member of the Saturniidae family. Their wingspan can reach 12 inches or 30 cm. This moth had recently emerged from the huge cocoon hanging from the tree. This photo was taken at Butterfly World in Florida.
