The picture above was
taken in Putnam County Tennessee in June. I saw dozens of these Great Spangled
Fritillary butterflies feeding on something that was in the middle of the
road. As a result, dozens more could be seen dead in the road and along the
roadside along with a black butterfly I didn't get a good enough look at to
identify.
As you can see, this Great Spangled Fritillary is feeding on dung. This is
NOT what the other butterflies were feeding on in the road.
