Gulf Fritillary

Common Name: Gulf Fritillary
Scientific Name: Agraulis vanillae
Range:
Flight Spring - Fall
Habitat
These photos of the Gulf Fritillary butterfly were taken in Putnam County Tennessee in early August. In Florida the butterflies are known to fly year round.

The ventral side photo below does not show the beauty of this butterfly. The large spots are not white as they appear, but instead they are metallic silver.

The caterpillar of the Gulf Fritillary butterfly feeds on the foliage of the passionflower.
