Lily Of The Valley

Common Name: Lily Of The Valley
Scientific Name: Convallaria majalis
Family: Ruscaceae
Flowering: April -
Origin:
Seedfall:
These Lily Of The Valley are in our perennial garden in middle Tennessee. They were transplants from my grandmothers garden in Illinois.  She has hundreds of them growing filling in one small flower bed behind her house. They seemed to transplant fairly easily. I just dug up 3 small bunches of about 10 or so plants, roots and a small dirt ball around the root system. This year they seem to be spreading some, and lots of blooms.

The flowers of the Convallaria majalis are small, fragrant white bells about 1/4" in diameter. The flowering stems have anywhere from 5 to 15 flowers.

Lily Of The Valley is native throughout the Northern Hemisphere in Asia and Europe. There are also wild plants found in the eastern United States, but there is some debate as to whether they are true native, or early transplants that thrived in there new surroundings.
