Pokeweed

Common Name: Pokeweed
Scientific Name: Phytolacca americana
Range: Fl - Tx up to Quebec~Ontario
Flowering: July - September
Habitat: Damp fields, roadsides, clear cut logging areas
This plant is easy to recognize because of it's red stems and large leaves(4"-12"). The plant gets long clusters of white flowers and smooth dark purple to almost black berries. The berries and roots are said to be poisonous. However, The berries can be used as a die.
