The Appalachian
Trails southern terminus is Springer Mountain,
Georgia. Ironically, there is no trailhead at
Springer Mountain. To reach Springer Mountain and
the beginning/end of the Appalachian Trail most
people use the 8.3 mile Appalachian Approach Trail from
Amicalola State Park. From Springer Mountain the
AT winds north approximately 75 miles through the
Chattahoochee National Forest before reaching
the North Carolina border and the Nantahala National
Forest. The Appalachian Trail crosses 4,461'
Blood Mountain, the highest point in Georgia. |
