Southeastern Five-lined Skink

This picture of a juvenile Southeastern Five-lined Skink was taken in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. As the skink ages, it's stripes will fade, and it's tale will change to a more natural color (see below).

Common Name: Southeastern Five-lined Skink
Scientific Name: Eumeces inexpectatus
Habitat: Lime stone ledges, hardwood forests, arid areas with plenty of cover.
Range: SW Illinois to Eastern Utah South to Mexico and central Texas
Diet: Primarily lizards and insects
