Killed In The Line Of Duty

The following is a list of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers killed in the line of duty. Nearly 20 Florida men and women, and over 225 dead officers nation wide, working to protect our natural resources.

  1. Guy Bradley - 35, Florida Audubon Game Warden was killed by bird poachers near Flamingo; jury ruled his killers acted in self defense. July 8, 1905
  2. Columbus MacLeod - 60, Florida Audubon Game Warden was killed in Charlotte Harbor; only his destroyed boat and other evidence were found. November 30, 1908
  3. Earl Sharp - Wildlife Officer Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission was killed in an airplane accident. Wednesday, October 1, 1947
  4. James R. Fields - Wildlife Officer was accidentally shot and killed by a turkey hunter who mistook Officer Fields for game. December 24, 1950
  5. Johnny Ingram - Wildlife Officer was killed in a airplane accident. November 25, 1951
  6. Bud T. Smith - Wildlife Officer was killed in a automobile accident on US 441. November 30, 1954
  7. Marvin J. Albritton - Wildlife Officer was killed in an accident while trying to load a boat on a trailer. August 19, 1966
  8. Jimmy Thompson - Wildlife Officer was electrocuted while working on an airboat. June 25, 1968
  9. Leon Walker - Wildlife Officer was killed in an automobile accident. August 13, 1970
  10. Charles Chapin - Wildlife Officer was shot and killed while attempting to arrest poaching suspects for hunting at night. November 5, 1972
  11. James L. Cook - Wildlife Officer drowned while on patrol. December 8, 1972
  12. Danese Byron Crowder - Wildlife Officer was killed while attempting to apprehend a man for poaching. May 3, 1974
  13. Margaret E. (Peggy) Park - Wildlife Officer was shot and killed with her own weapon while investigating shots fired in a subdivision that was under development. December 13, 1984
  14. Ray Lynn Barnes - Wildlife Officer was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a poacher. November 21, 1987
  15. Roy R. Burnsed - Wildlife Officer was killed in a head-on auto collision with wildlife officer Charles T. Randall who was also killed. October 26, 2001
  16. Charles T. Randall - Wildlife Officer was killed in a head-on auto collision with wildlife officer Roy R. Burnsed who was also killed. October 28, 2001
  17. Delmar H. Teagan - Lt. Delmar “Del” Teagan died Friday, April 13, near Lakeland when his FWC vehicle was struck by another vehicle.
  18. Michelle Lawless - 47, died Oct. 27, 2007, when her all-terrain vehicle crashed during a routine patrol in the Rotenberger WMA in Broward County.
